"Filial Therapy: Integrating Family and Play Therapy"
Presented By: Karen Pernet, LCSW, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor
This workshop will introduce professionals who work with children and families to Filial Therapy. Filial is a well-researched and highly effective psycho-educational, skills training model that integrates the magic of non-directive play therapy and direct parent involvement in the change process. The therapist trains the parent to become the healer of his or her own child in a process which enhances the parent/caregiver and child relationship. The focus is on the present-emphasizing appropriate skills for positive parent/child relationships. There will be a case presentation to demonstrate Filial Therapy.
After the session participants will be able to
1. Describe 3 central principles of Filial Therapy
2. Name 3 advantages of Filial Therapy over traditional play therapy or parenting skills training
3. Describe the four basic skills which are taught to parents in Filial Play Therapy.
