Presents 

 

"Current Suicide Prevention Programming on College Campuses"

 

Presented By: Susan Taylor, PhD

 

Overview: 

Over the last three years, College campuses in California have entered into unique collaborations with County Behavioral Health, Regional Mental Health Partnerships, and State joint power authorities to develop public awareness and skill building campaigns designed to reduce student suicides. Elements of these trainings will be discussed, along with strategic decision making surrounding how to most effectively target particular populations within the campus community to increase protective factors.

 

Goals/ Objectives:

1) Participants will become familiar with current statistical data on college student suicides; 

2) Participants will develop an understanding of  at least two current Suicide Prevention gatekeeper models and strategies used on college campuses in California;

3) Participants will develop understanding of the training elements, as well as the target populations within campus life; 

4) Develop an understanding of how California's effort fit with other state and national models.

 

About the Presenter:

Susan A. Taylor, PhD is a professor in the Division of Social Work at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). She developed and was the Coordinator of Mental Health training in the Division of Social Work for seven of the last ten years. In the last three years she developed and has coordinated Campus-wide Suicide Prevention Training at California State University, Sacramento. In addition to her work at CSUS, she is volunteer Clinical Faculty at UCDavis Medical School, and is in training to be ordained as a Buddhist Minister.

 

 

This course meets the qualifications for 2.0 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Members earn credits at no cost. Credits for non-members are $10.00 per unit. All are welcome to attend at no charge (no CEU certificate). MSW students are especially encouraged to attend.
