"Everything You Wanted to Know About Sleep: Disorders, Medications, and Psychological Aspects"
Presented By: Chad Ruoff, M.D.
Overview: This presentation will describe what to expect during a sleep clinic visit at the Stanford Sleep Center. Dr. Ruoff will review symptoms of a variety of sleep disorders, as well as basic treatment options. He will also discuss alternatives to in-laboratory sleep testing, including home sleep testing. Dr. Ruoff will conclude by presenting normal sleep architecture findings from a sleep study and will describe how common prescription and non-prescription medications and light and darkness impact sleep and alertness.
Goals and Objectives:1) Describe how commonly prescribed medications influence sleep.
2) List common sleep disorders, including signs, symptoms, and basic treatment options.
3) Understand normal sleep architecture and circadian rhythms, during sleep and wakefuless.
About the Presenter:Dr. Chad Ruoff is a clinical assistant professor at the Stanford University Sleep Center. He is also the Associate Program Director of the Stanford University Sleep Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Ruoff received his MD from Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, and his B.S. in biology from Georgetown University. Dr. Ruoff has conducted numerous research studies and has written many articles on various aspects of sleep.
This course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. PCE #1 Members earn credits at no cost. Credits for non-members are $15 per meeting. All are welcome to attend at no charge (no CEU certificate). MSW students are especially encouraged to attend.
