About the Presentation:

DBT 101: DBT is an evidenced based practice originally created by Marsha Linehan  to treat acute suicidal and emotionally dysregulated clients. DBT has been widely researched and is currently being used to treat a number of disorders. In this workshop you will learn the foundations of DBT and how skills and dialectical thinking are used to effectively treat clients. There will also be DBT skills training.  

Learning Objectives: 

  • Clinicians will be able to define what DBT is and how DBT is used to treat emotionally dysregulated clients
  • Clinicians will learn how to conceptualize a client's emotion dysregulation through the lens of biopsychosocial theory
  • Clinicians will learn DBT skills including Core Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness
  • Clinicians will gain an understanding of dialectical thinking including how to balance acceptance and use of validation of where a client is at and push for change
  • Clinicians will learn techniques including diary card and behavioral chain analysis as tools for change


Sherri Ardekani, LCSW 

Sherri Ardekani LCSW is a psychotherapist with over 24 years of extensive expertise in individual and group therapy, specializing in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and clinical supervision. She is adept in substance abuse treatment, risk assessment, and treatment planning, with a foundation in family counseling and cognitive behavior therapy. Sherri is committed to fostering a supportive therapeutic environment and enhancing the skills of social workers through clinical supervision, while aspiring to innovate therapeutic practices for improved client outcomes. Sherri is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician.

This course meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education credit (2 CEUs) for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Note: With supervisor approval, registered ASWs may use CEs toward LCSW hours.
