CSCSW currently has 6 active districts, organized geographically: Greater Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, San Fernando Valley, Midpeninsula/Silicon Valley

Take Advantage of Your Membership

All district-sponsored meetings and CE events are:

  • FREE and included with your membership
  • Open to any member across the state
  • Allow members to earn 2 free CEs per event
  • Offer opportunities for networking and connection

(Note: Non-members can also attend any district-sponsored meeting and CE events by paying anentry fee and for their CEs.)

Districts also offer clinical practice workshops:

  • Members pay a discounted rate for workshops
  • The fees generated by these workshops cover paid presenters from a variety of clinical practice areas

Prior to 2020, local districts provided local members with opportunities for networking and socializing in person. In response to the pandemic, all programming wastransitioned to a virtual format, making all district meetings and CE events available to members throughout the state.

Districts have coordinators and steering committee volunteers to ensure that district meetingsand CE events are of value and interest to members and meet CSCSW standards for clinical education.

Meet the District Coordinators


Joan Berman – Midpeninsula/Silicon Valley

Joan Berman is the District Coordinator for the Midpeninsula/Silicon Valley District. She has been involved in local district planning since 2012.

Joan has worked in the field of child and parent and individual adult counseling for over 35 years. She received her master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Michigan. Since 1989, she has had a private practice in Palo Alto working with children, their parents and individual adults.

In addition to her private practice Joan has served as the Director of Children’s Services at Family Service Midpeninsula, Child Therapy Consultant at International School of the Peninsula/Early Childhood Program and as consultant and supervisor for social work student interns at Child Advocates (CASA) of Silicon Valley.

Michelle Foy – San Diego




Emily Plain – Greater Los Angeles

Emily Plain earned her MSW from the University of Southern California and has specialized training and certifications in Trauma Informed Yoga, Yoga and Mindfulness for PTSD, Yoga for Veterans and Yoga for Military Sexual Trauma. She currently holds positions at the West Los Angeles Department of Veteran’s Affairs and the Santa Monica Center for Acceptance and Change. Emily joined the California Society for Clinical Social Work in 2018 and serves as the Greater Los Angeles District Coordinator. Emily states “support from CSCSW has brought advancement in both personal and professional awareness through education, networking with wonderful colleagues, and good ol fun.”

Tanya Moradians – San Fernando Valley

Dr. Tanya Moradians has been a member of CSCSW since its inception in 1969. She graduated from Berkeley with her BA in Sociology, then later received her MSW from USC and in 1981 received her Ph.D. from the Sanville Institute in Berkeley. She has served on the Board for many years at different times and has been and currently is Coordinator of The San Fernando Valley District. In 1975 she was actively involved with our then part-time lobbyist, Bill Grimm, and 2 other Clinical Social Workers who flew up to Sacramento to testify to the State Legislature for Social Worker insurance parity. The State Legislature and passed the Parity Bill that meant that Clinical Social Workers were able to bill insurance companies and maintain an independent private practice.

Dr. Tanya Moradians is a Fellow in the American Group Psychotherapy Association. Over the years and in addition to her evening private practice, she has worked concurrently as a full-time Medical and Psychiatric Social worker in the LA County Dept of Mental Health at Olive View Hospital, at St. Vincent Hospital and later at UCLA Semel Institute (also known as NPI Psychiatric Institute). She is an Honorary UCLA faculty member for the Dept of Psychiatry and continues her private practice in Encino where she sees adults and seniors and is a Medicare provider.
